About Inner Light Yoga

In the last 10 years or so, yoga has become more popular than ever in the UK. The trend is generally towards physical fitness, which is valid but at Inner Light Yoga we take the essence of yoga right back to its original roots and address the health of body, mind and spirit as a whole. We cannot separate one from the other.

Yoga is a holistic science and the word ‘Yoga’ means ‘to join’ or ‘to connect’. This means connecting the individual spirit (the Atman) with the Universal Spirit (the Paramatman) through the practice of asanas, pranayama, relaxation and meditation.
 
At an Inner Light Yoga class you will experience yourself not only physically and mentally but deeper than that, into a silent awareness of the Self.
 
You will do warm up sequences to prepare the major muscles, joints and the spine, Surya Namaskar (Salutation to the Sun) – a dynamic Hatha Yoga sequence of movement and breath which activates the whole body, classical yoga asanas, pranayama – simple breathing techniques, deep relaxation or Savasana and meditation.
 
A good yoga practice is not how well you can perform stretchy postures but one where you can maintain breath awareness from start to finish. Yoga is the breath and where there is no breath, there is no yoga. Breath is the force that gives us life and generates health but more than that, on more subtle levels it is the pathway into the spirit within.
